Collection One: The Minimalist Edit
When I was dreaming up what BestKind's first "drop" would be, I started with my constraints. Not very sexy I know, but I'm a self-funded entrepreneur. A girl's gotta be practical.
I wanted to test the waters around this concept, so I started a long list of destinations and then slowly whittled them down to five, which felt doable from a design and production perspective.
The five I picked have nothing in common except for the fact that they are places I have loved being in and failed to find any tourist merch that spoke to my aesthetic and quality expecations. The destinations span from well known to unknown places, those that are highly visited to under-the-radar.
From a design perspective, I knew that I wanted to make these really simple and quiet. This is not a novel concept - you have likely seen other brands use small sans serif typography. (You can see examples here and here).
I drew colour inspo from the places themselves - either the vibes, like the collegiate feeling of The Berkshires, or the actual colours - like the blue tile and coral buildings in Marrakech.
And finally, I went with embroidered type instead of screen printed for the look and longevity.
The Minimalist Edit is the first of what I hope will be many collections, each bringing a particular perspective to the destinations featured.
